Quick Guide to Loading Your Belongings

Loading Tips and Resources

While packing is the first line of defense against moving damage, the second is properly loading items in the equipment. Get started with answers to some FAQs, and then see step-by-step instructions for loading items safely and securely.

How Much Help Will I Need?

Depending on the size of the home and how much time you want to spend, you’ll want to have 1-3 extra people on hand to help load. Not only will it take some of the work off your shoulders, but it will also make the process more efficient. Ask a few people to remain on the truck while others are carrying items. These people can work on stacking everything, and nobody has to stop bringing things from the house!

What Should I do Before the Equipment Arrives?

There are a few things you’ll need to take care of before the big day. One of the biggest is to measure large pieces of furniture and find the best door to use when moving them. You’ll also need to clear an obstacle-free route from the door to the moving equipment, and put protective covering on the floors. Finally, be sure to set aside any items you’re taking with you, so they don’t get loaded by mistake.

What Should I Wear?

Safety is a big factor when choosing what to wear while loading belongings. Avoid clothing that may get snagged while carrying furniture out of doorways, and always wear durable, supportive footwear with a good grip. You’ll also want to put on leather gloves when handling large, heavy objects with sharp edges.

How Do I Move Heavy Items?

Whether you’re carrying an item or using a moving dolly, there are a few rules to follow. Prevent injury by lifting with your legs, not your back. And don’t be afraid to ask for help! A good rule of thumb is to keep boxes under 40 pounds so they can be lifted safely.

Must-Know Tips for Moving Out of State

Secure Housing and Employment Before Moving Out of State

While it might not always be possible, moving out of state after you have a job lined up will take a huge load off. How do you find a job across the country? If possible, reach out to friends and family who live in your new area. You can also use job sites such as Indeed and Glassdoor to find openings and LinkedIn to leverage your network. If moving day rolls around and you don’t have a job waiting for you, that’s okay. Just be sure you’ve saved up at least 3 months’ worth of living expenses to cover you in the meantime.

Craft a Master Plan for Moving Out of State

Before you begin your moving research process, create a high-level master plan of how you’ll organize your move. Figure out how much money you can spend max while moving out of state. Can you transport any of your belongings in your own car or rental truck, or will you leave everything to professional movers? If you’re planning a DIY move, you’ll want to look into the cost of renting a moving truck. Request a Penske truck rental quote for estimates on pricing.

Pare Down Your Stuff Before Moving Out of State

Take inventory of everything that you’ll bring to your new place, being sure to focus on the things you really need, like your dishes and a bed frame. Moving out of state can get very expensive very quickly, so you’ll want to keep costs under control by only moving these necessities.

Budget Everything for Moving Out of State

Whether you’re using recycled packing materials or scheduling your move on a day with lower moving estimates, sticking to a budget will be a big help as you’re moving out of state. To keep track of both your budget and your expenses, create a master spreadsheet of all of your moving-related costs so you’ll be prepared to make the payments when you need to.

Decide Between a Professional or a DIY Move

The most common deciding factors between hiring a professional moving company and taking on a DIY move are cost and convenience. Once you have your budget ready to go, you’ll be able to decide fairly quickly whether you can afford to hire a moving company or if a DIY move is a better option.

Find The Best Home Inspection

Tips to Find the Best Home Inspector

Ask if the inspector can do ancillary inspections. If your home has a septic system, for example, or if foundation problems are common in your area, ask ahead of time if the inspector can do those inspections and if there will be an extra fee.

Get copies of license and insurance documents. Many, though not all, states require home inspectors to be licensed. Some municipalities may also require licensing. A qualified home inspector will provide copies of his or her license and proof of insurance.

Ask what won’t be included and how to find out the condition of those items. In colder climates, for example, the roof, deck, patio, driveway and other exterior features can’t be inspected when they are covered with snow.

Ask if the inspector is a member of ASHI, NAHI, InterNACHI or any other professional inspectors group. Choosing an inspector who belongs to a professional organization isn’t a guarantee of quality, but it does indicate a degree of professionalism and training.

Read reviews on Angie’s List, Yelp and Google. You can ask inspectors for references and call past clients. But you should also read online reviews that the inspector doesn’t control to ensure accuracy.

How to Choose a Home Inspector

Ask What You Get for the Price

Inspectors without specialized credentials typically charge around $300 to $1,000, depending on the home’s location and size, the inspector’s experience, and the scope of the inspection itself.

Consider Training and Experience

In addition to professional certifications, look for someone who has been in the field inspecting homes for at least several years. He’s more likely to have seen a variety of home types and a broad range of home issues.

Compare Home Inspection Reports

The best way to determine how thorough an inspector will be—and how well he will communicate the problems he finds—is to ask for a sample copy of an inspection he has done on a home like the one you’re considering buying, Brasler says. “The sample report will show how much work they’re going to do,” he says.

Favor Credentials, but Know Their Limits

Hiring someone who’s certified by a professional organization can give you a bit more assurance that the inspector is knowledgeable.

Identify Qualified and Trusted Candidates

To find a reputable inspector, first ask friends who have recently purchased a home whether they recommend the person they used. You can also find referrals through local online communities such as NextDoor or Patch, where members sometimes post their experiences. A crowdsourced directory such as Yelp, and home services sites such as Angie’s List and HomeAdvisor, may also be helpful.

Tips for Getting the Most out of a Home Inspection

Don’t Forget the Basement

An unfinished basement will give a lot of clues to the condition of the house and foundation. Look for cracks, signs of repairs and water issues. A crack in the slab or wall is not always a dealbreaker, but understanding why a crack appeared is important. Your home inspector will be able to tell you if anything needs further inspection from a structural engineer.

Furnace and Water Heater

Beyond making sure the furnace and water heater work properly, you should find out how old each one is and the last time each received service. Replacing a furnace or water heater can be pricy, so if either one is in need of replacing soon, you need to keep that in mind while putting together your offer on the property. You can also get a feel for how the furnace is cared for by checking the furnace filter. A filter that’s in obvious need of changing can hint at other postponed or ignored maintenance.

Give the Plumbing a Try

Losing water pressure or dealing with a slow drain can be indicators of larger plumbing issues. Make sure bathtubs and shower pans are leak-tested. And have the home inspector inspect the water main and shutoff points (very useful knowledge if/when you take ownership of the property).

Look in the Attic

A well-functioning attic is crucial to protecting a home. If your home inspector can get into the attic without trampling insulation, you can often learn a lot about the home and any renovations or repairs. One very common inspection red flag is improper venting of bathroom fans into the attic (and not extending the vent all the way through the roof). If your bathroom fan is venting directly into the attic, all it’s doing is sending moisture and humid air into the attic where it cause mold, rot or worse. It’s also not up to code. If possible, have your inspector check for attic air leaks. While you can fix these attic air leaks, an attic with air leaks could have potential issues with insulation, moisture, mold or worse.

Test GFCIs

GFCI outlets are part of the building code in rooms where moisture is present (kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, etc.). Your inspector will know how to test these outlets properly, and malfunctioning or non-working GFCI outlets could hint at bigger electrical problems.

How to Choose a Home Inspection Company

Be prepared for bad news. It is a home inspector’s job to find any existing or potential problems with a house. They can lose their license if they fail to report issues, so although it might feel like they’re purposely giving bad news, be thankful for the information.

Know what will be inspected. A home inspector must thoroughly conduct a review of the inner and outer areas of a house, including:

Plumbing: While conducting a home inspection, old piping materials, faulty fixtures, water pumps and water heaters are some of the concerns that an inspector will focus on. Plumbing defects are one of the main issues a homeowner and/or buyers will face in terms of repairs.

Understand the actual inspection. Home inspectors enter a home and analyze all of the major components that make up a house purchase. Home inspection companies document the safety and overall condition of a home at the time of the inspection. Home inspections usually take about 3 hours for a minimal inspection, and 5 or 6 hours in order to arrive at a thorough, proper assessment. Depending on how old or large a house is, it may take longer or less time to complete.

Be prepared for the cost. The average fee for a home inspection is between $350-$500, but the information received from an inspector is priceless. It could be the turning point between a sale and a buyer going back to searching for the perfect home.

Finding the Right Home Inspector

What to expect on inspection day

On the day of the inspection, the inspector performs an initial site evaluation. Then the inspector takes you on a tour to point out the assets as well as any potential problems. Pay attention, watch, ask questions and learn. A thorough inspection can find problems related to water entry, roof leaks, insect infestation, unsafe wiring, failed septic systems, poor plumbing, wet basements, mold and mildew, and safety hazards.

At the end of the inspection, you receive a written report detailing all the findings. The report should contain photographs and descriptions of any damage or defects found during the inspection as well as details on the location of damage. Pictures help you understand the scope and location of the damage, and visual proof makes it easier to get repair estimates.

Tips To Make Home Remodelling For Old House

What Are the Initial Steps in a Home Remodeling Project?

Starting a home renovation can be overwhelming, especially if you haven’t completed one before. Whatever the project, your remodel will involve so many details it can easily become daunting.

Use these steps and tips for planning a home remodel to choose how to order, prioritize and build a detailed home project plan that will help reduce your stress level while keeping you on budget and on schedule.

How to Plan a Remodel in 5 Steps

Build a Detailed Home Improvement Project Plan

The first step in a remodeling project is to develop a plan that clearly states the goal for your renovation and includes designing inspiration and an outline of the work that needs to be completed.

Your project plan should also include:

  • Blueprints or sketches of your finished project.
  • A list of needs and wants for your project.
  • Project steps divided into DIY steps and steps that will require a professional.

Be Realistic

The second step is to find out what is actually possible so you won’t hit snags that can put an end to the project halfway through. Especially for more extensive renovations, you should get a structural engineer to take a look at your home and see if the structure will support what you have in mind. You also need to find out what the local laws and bylaws are, whether you’ll be allowed to make the changes you want to make and which permits you need to obtain.

Do the Financial Prep Work

The third step is getting the money in place for your renovation project. Renovations are unique and its best to meet with a financial advisor for individual advice.

Interview contractors.

Contractors are frequently brought into the process once a final schematic design has been selected. Usually there is at least a general idea of how the home will look from the outside, a dimensioned floor plan and some preliminary material selections. With this much information, it’s possible to provide preliminary estimates of cost.

Contractors are often asked to estimate the schematic design as part of the interview process. It may take a couple of weeks to set up the interviews and generally at least two to three weeks after interviews to receive the estimates. Altogether it could take four to six weeks to interview candidates and receive estimates. After that you may want to call references, visit jobsites or do additional research before making a decision about the contractor you will hire..

Shop for Contractors and Materials

Allow yourself one to two months to choose everything. While you are shopping for tile and hardwood floors, your architect or designer will finalize construction drawings, work with a structural engineer on how the project will be built and put in the details required for permitting. If it all goes well, you will work on this step and the previous one concurrently and finish at the same time.

Develop Detailed Home Remodeling Plans or House Plans

After documenting your high level home remodeling or house plan objectives, you can now get down to work fleshing out all of the details. This includes specifying the actual dimensions of all the rooms in your home remodeling or house plans, as well as specifying the myriad of details such as lighting and flooring choices and their locations, appliance makes and models, cabinets, plumbing fixtures, paint colors, interior trim styles and colors, and even landscape items when applicable.

Build a Timeline

Once you have your budget and team in place for your remodeling plan, it’s time to put together your timeline. First, choose a desired start date, or if you’re hoping to have it completed by a specific date, work backward from that date instead. Sit down with your contractors to determine the length of time each portion of the project will take. Discuss which steps of the remodel need to be completed first, how long they will take and which project portions can be completed concurrently.

Additionally, be sure your timeline:

  • Includes time to clean out the project area.
  • Allows for the shipping and delivery of materials.
  • Accounts for any holidays your contractors may take off.

If all have a similar pattern of color then its safe to go with the same color. On the other hand, you can make a little bit change in the shade or pattern of coloring the tiles of the roof to make your house stand apart from the rest without turning an eyesore.

The Appearance Of The House:

Many are not aware that the use of dark with light colors create a magical impact on the appearance of the home exterior. When you have a light-colored roof it will make the house appear taller than actual and will be an ideal option when the house is having a low roof or a shallow looking pitch. Contrasting, using a darker color will make the tall roof appear less overwhelming.

Style Of The Home:

The roof color or better to say the roof tile color that you will be selecting for your roof need to match your overall home style. Select the color taking into consideration all elements of the exterior design of the home, for example, the color of doors, windows, walls, landscape, frames of doors, balcony grill, etc. One thing that you need to keep in mind is that the color of the tiles will stay for several years and so even if you don’t like the color after a year and so, it will cost you big to change. There needs to be a cool balance between the roof color and the color of the rest sections of the house exterior. Take suggestions from roofing services in Arizona experts and compare color samples to pick the right shade for the roof. We will suggest you check the samples in the various time slot of the day. This will give an idea of how it looks under a bright light in the afternoon, semi-dull in the morning and when the sun is about to set.

Paint Quality:

It is one of the key factors to consider when you begin the search for the perfect color for your roof. Your search should target high-quality paint perfect for applying on the tile roof and the one that can serve you long. Ask for the paint warranty period before you buy it, it is better to go with the one with the maximum warranty period. Check the reviews of the paints online for getting more ideas on quality roof paints.

Tips in Choosing The Best Roof Tile For Your Home Extension

Popularity of Roof Tile for Home Extension Returns

Today, its popularity is again taking hold thanks in part to a renewed interest in old-fashioned aesthetics. If you’re contemplating investing in roof tile for home extension purposes, it pays to educate yourself on the best roof tiles available, to suit your specific needs.

Here is a quick guide to picking roof tile for home extension purposes:

Pricier doesn’t always mean better – you’ll be tempted to invest in extremely pricey roofing tiles with the general presumption that the most expensive ones last longer, or that they require less maintenance, but don’t be fooled! More often than not, mid-priced roofing tiles and even ones that are downright dirt-cheap are just as hardy as the over-priced ones, and investing in them won’t empty your pockets.

Learn to pick good ‘quality’ mid-priced tiles versus expensive ones, your wallet will thank you for it.

Pick the right tile for your climate – if you live in a tropical climate, don’t pick roofing tiles that are made from rock, since these tend to trap and collect heat, but do not diffuse it as well as other materials. Opt instead for clay, terra cotta, or ceramic tiles which are more ideal for tropical environments. If you live in a place that has its fair share of sunny days and cold spells, investing in tiles made from rocks like shale or limestone will be worth your while.

Combine functionality and aesthetics when picking roofing tiles – the shape of roofing tiles aren’t there for mere aesthetics; it too also serves a very practical purpose. Slatted and curved tiles are perfect for climates that undergo regular bouts of rain, but dead-flat tiles are far more ideal for places which experience regular snowfall.

Tips in Choosing the Perfect Roof Colour and Texture for your New Home

Create the perfect contrast.

Take a look at your home design. If there are too many colours, patterns, and textures everywhere else such as different coloured brick or cement wall, textured stone façade in various shades, then your roof tiles must have a smooth or flat surface and come in a monotonous shade to look its best. Composite roof, slates, and asphalt shingles fit this design profile. A home with simpler features and toned down colours like white washed walls, smooth monochrome brick, can stand out with complex styles, playful textures, and richer colours. Clay, concrete, and wooden shingles may also be used to achieve this look.

Complement colours, not match them.

Many homeowners make the horrible mistake of choosing a roof colour with the exact same hue as the siding or exterior walls. You wouldn’t want your new home to look boring, would you? That is why you should pick complementing colours instead.

The secret lies in the theme.

One of the best tips in choosing the perfect colour and texture for your new home is to go with a particular theme. You can never go wrong with orange clay tile roofing for a Mediterranean house, or an olive green slate roof for a French Country home. If your house doesn’t have a specific theme that requires a certain colour scheme, then a neutral roof is a safe choice.

Observe roof samples under bright light.

If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on roof samples, examine them under bright light. You may also want to place the sample roof tile beside samples of sidings and walls. This gives you a more accurate estimate of what your home would look like once the roof is installed.

Consider climate conditions.

Black shingle roofs with plywood sheathing have the tendency to store heat and make a home ten degrees warmer. Unless you live in an area with cool climate, it is advisable to stay away from them and opt for other darker shades such as brown or gray. These lighter colours have no effect on indoor temperatures.

What Are the Main Types of Roofing Tiles?

Concrete Tiles

Concrete tiles can be a good alternative to ceramic tiles as they are less prone to breakage and look similar to ceramic tiles. Concrete tiles are made from a mixture of cement, sand, and water. The result is a tile that is very heavy, easy to install and less expensive than slate tiles.

Bituminous Tiles

Bituminous tiles are among the lightest and easiest to install. They are made of fiberglass and covered with basalt chips or granite on top. They can be installed by any roofer since they only require an adhesive to fix them to the roof.

Composite Tiles

Composite tile roofing is a multi-layered tile that comprises of acrylic, metal, and stone. The demand for such tiles is soaring as the need for a more natural appearance continues to increase. Composite tiles look similar to slate and clay tiles but are lighter than stone and concrete tile.

Polymer-Sand Tiles

Polymer-sand tiles are made from mixing sand and binding them with polymers. They are considered to be the most suitable alternative to the use of ceramic tiles. They look similar to ceramic tiles but they are more durable and less likely to break.

Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles are known for their fireproofing abilities and to some extent their durability. They exclusively used in Southwestern and Spanish style homes but now they are almost everywhere. They come in different shapes, sizes, and colors which makes them ideal for a wide range of homes.

Tips in Choosing The Best Roofing Materials

In choosing the best roofing material for your home, it is advisable to familiarize oneself with the various roofing materials that are available in the market before deciding to keep the same type of roof that needs to be replaced or get another kind of roofing material. Make sure that the new roofing can withstand all types of weather and can last longer than most. The roof slope is also one factor that needs to be considered when deciding on a new roofing material.

After considering on a material’s durability and longevity, consider the appearance as the roof covers your house. The roof is very visible on the street so it is best to find the roof material that would dramatically affect the appearance of your home. Find one that matches with the design, color, texture and material of your home to create an awesome finish to your home’s exterior look. If the style of your house is Spanish style then find a roof that is consistent with the design of your house.

The cost of roofing material greatly affects your choice. The asphalt-fiberglass shingles are the most popular material and they are affordable to buy and to install. Wood shingles are a little bit more expensive than asphalt shingles and so are the clay tiles. Typically, the higher the cost of the material, the higher is the cost of labor so take a pick of the most affordable roofing materials to get more savings both in the material and installation.

A roofing material’s durability is significant especially if you intend to stay in the same house for a long time. Find a material that lasts longer than most. One piece of advice, invest in a material that is more durable and lasts longer to reduce the cost of installation and the inconvenience that goes with the replacement of roof.

Use Drywall Repairs Metode To Fis Your Wall

How To Repair Drywall in Simple Steps

Drywall is relatively simple to install and easy to repair. It’s also easy to repair badly, which can leave a lumpy mess that declares “shoddy” to anyone who enters the room.

SAFETY FIRST

Watch The Weight

If you have several large repairs to do and you’ll be buying a sheet or two of drywall, be advised that a sheet of regular 1/2-in. drywall weighs about 1.7 pounds per square foot. That means a 1/2-in. 4 x 8-ft. sheet weighs a bit more than 54 pounds (a 3/8-in. sheet weighs almost 45 pounds). If you stand it on edge and it falls over, someone–especially a child–could get hurt.

Beware Of Buckets

Five-gal. compound buckets pose a drowning or suffocation hazard to small children–when they are new and filled with compound, or later after they are cleaned and used for car washing and other jobs.

Clean Up The Dust

It also bears mentioning that drywall sanding dust is a respiratory irritant. Wear a dust mask when sanding to block airborne gypsum and silica particles. Also, spread a plastic dropcloth nearby. Wipe dust off the dropcloth with a damp sponge, then clean the surrounding areas with a shop vacuum, let the air settle, and finish vacuuming with your household vac.

Here’s how to repair a hole in drywall:

  1. Buy all the tools you need (listed below).
  2. Prep the hole by clearing debris and smoothing the edges.
  3. If it’s a small hole, fill it with spackle and let it dry.
  4. If it’s a large hole, measure and cut a piece of repair patch or mesh tape to cover the hole. Then, completely cover the patch with spackle and let it dry.
  5. Sand the area until it’s flat and smooth.
  6. Paint over the area you just repaired so it looks like nothing ever happened.

What Tools Are Needed for Drywall Repair?

Need to repair damaged drywall in your home? Use our drywall tools list to get the job done right. It examines the six essential drywall tools you will need.

  1. Hawks and mud pans

A hawk is a large square sheet of metal supported by a center handle. Mud pans resemble meatloaf pans and have crisp, sharp edges. These tools are used to carry the drywall compound with you while you work. Hawks are the tool of choice for professionals, so they tend to cost a little more. A mud pan will work nicely for occasional repairs.

  1. Knife

Plaster repair requires the right kinds of knives. Putty knives range in size from two inches across to more than a foot. The size you need depends on how large a repair you are doing. Nail holes are easily patched with a narrow knife, but larger work over seams or big holes will require a wider blade.

  1. Sandpaper

You cannot do a proper patch job with sandpaper. A sanding block is OK, but actual paper with a special hard sanding pad is better. If you will be working on higher areas, invest in a sanding board that you can put an extension on.

  1. Sanding sponge

Sanding drywall produces a ton of dust. Small jobs can be finished with a sanding sponge. Used along with a bucket of water, the sponge will eliminate concerns about drywall dust. They should be used with care, however, to avoid removing too much of the compound.

  1. Corner tools

Inside corner tools are perfect for finishing off the difficult area in the corner of a room. It will speed up the process of finishing a stretch of drywall. However, it’s not typically required for repairs around the house.

  1. Tape

Large repairs, like cracks or seams, should be fixed using tape. The tape will prevent the crack from reappearing and can easily be blended in with the wall. Holes can be covered using special sheets of self-adhesive mesh.

How To  Repair Small Holes In Drywall

Instructions

  1. Place the self-adhesive mesh patch over the hole.
  2. Use a drywall knife to cover the patch with lightweight joint compound in a crisscross pattern, feathering the edges so it blends with the wall. To feather the edge, increase pressure and angle on the drywall knife as you reach the outer edges of the patch area to minimize, or thin, the joint compound on the drywall.
  3. Let the patch dry and apply a second coat of compound if needed. Sand smooth.

Give it the Old College Try

If the hole is smaller than 1/4 inch, the first weapon in your quick fix arsenal should be toothpaste — preferably the same shade as your wall. Simply squeeze the paste into the hole, and then use a putty knife (or playing card) to scrape off the excess. Try to get the paste as flush as possible with the wall. The toothpaste might shrink a bit when it dries, so a second application may be needed.

If the toothpaste trick doesn’t appeal to you, another quick fix is to crush up an aspirin into as fine a powder as you can manage, mix the powder with just enough water to form a paste, and then use that to fill the hole. It’ll work in a pinch, but the toothpaste method is a lot easier

Possums are an iconic Australian fauna. They are a small nocturnal marsupials benefiting from their silky smooth fur and leather.

SPECIES

There are 23 known species in Australia, and of those there are two mostly likely to be running along your roof at night.

Bushtail  Possum

These are a nocturnal, semi-tree dwelling marsupial. They are indigenous to Australia and are the size of a domestic cat, they are the second biggest possum in Australia.

The Brushtail Possum has a pointed face and a pink nose with long oval ears and a bushy black tail. In Tasmania there are three colour variations: silver grey, black and gold. Possums that inhabit denser wetter forests tend to be darker in colour.

Ringtail Possum

They are an Australian marsupial. They live in various habitats and eat a variety of plants, flowers and fruits. They are the size of a small cat and mainly grey with white fur on the tip of its tail, behind its eyes and on its belly. They have orange brown tinges on its tail and limbs.

They can be grey to dark grey in colour and havr red or orange tinged legs and belly. The underside of its coiled tail is naked, but furry on top.

A female possum is called a ‘Jill” a male is called a ‘Jack” and the young are called ‘Joeys” A group of these possums are called a passel.

How to Get Rid of Possums

  • Remove Any Food Sources
  • Cut Back Trees Near Your Home
  • Use Possum Deterrents e.g. Sprays, Spikes and Spotlights
  • Build a Possum Box
  • Trap the Possums and Seal Up Entry Points

Use these instructions for removing the possum yourself.

  1. First, make sure it is a possum and not a rat or mouse – sprinkling flour near the manhole and checking the footprints will determine this – possums are the size of a cat.
  2. Next, set up an alternative home for the possum. You will need a nesting box – buy one from wildlife rescuers or build your own.
  3. Where possible, get inside your roof and locate the possum’s nest. The nest, which has the scent of the possum, should be placed in the new possum house to encourage the possum to its new home.
  4. Encourage the possum to investigate his new home by putting pieces of fresh fruit in or near the nesting box.
  5. Locate a suitable tree in your garden to site the box, securing it at least 4 m up.
  6. Find out how the possum is getting into the roof space by observing it at dusk when it will leave to forage.
  7. Repel possums by sprinkling the roof cavity with quassia chips (from hardware stores), or naphthalene or camphor (Note: do not use a combination of products) and putting a light into the roof cavity and leaving it on for three days and nights. The combination of the light and the smell should drive the possum out of your roof and hopefully into the possum house you have provided.
  8. After you are certain the possum has moved into its new home, block its access into the roof by filling the hole with chicken wire or wood and trimming any overhanging branches. Night time is the best time to block off the access points as the possum will have left to forage for food.
  9. If the possum returns, there is another access point you need to find.

How to Get the Possum out of Your Roof

  1. Find out where he’s coming in: They normally enter from trees or bushes that are close to the house. Keep a close eye on the accused spot until you can verify the possum’s presence.
  2. Wait until night: Bushtails are nocturnal, so wait until nightfall. Once they leave for the night, place some repellent inside the cavern.
  3. Shine a Light: Possums like to sleep in the dark. If he isn’t leaving, shine a light in there. That’ll get him out. Keep the light in the cavern inside your roof to keep anyone from coming back.

Simple Scare Tactics

These harmless scare tactics will startle any possums that come into your yard so that they’ll be unlikely to return:

  • Tie helium balloons around your yard to sway in the wind and startle the possums away.
  • Place pinwheels, found in party supply stores, in the soil around your plants. The pinwheels will spin in the wind.
  • Set up an oscillating fan in your garden with an extension cord. Tie a few ribbons to the fan so that they stream out when the fan is running. The sight and sound of the fan should scare the possums away.
  • Play a portable radio in your yard. The noise will scare away the possums, but check with your neighbors to ensure that they aren’t disturbed

Tips To Learn To Be A Veterinarian

Different Types of Veterinarians

Becoming a Veterinarian

Becoming a veterinarian requires a high degree of education, comparable to that needed to become a physician. In addition to their specialized education, most individuals seeking to become vets will have completed a science based bachelor’s degree program to prepare themselves to successfully complete their veterinary program.

In most cases, a veterinary program takes at least four years to complete. As these are intensive programs that include classroom, laboratory and clinical components, there are no part-time veterinarian programs in the United States. Furthermore, most programs have extremely competitive entry requirements, making it important that any candidate be able to demonstrate his or her qualifications when seeking entry.

the United States, veterinary programs are accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). It is important that any candidate ensure that his or her program is currently accredited, as most states will not accept diplomas from programs that have not been accredited. Students who have graduated from a foreign veterinary program must be able to show that it is equal to an AVMA accredited program as a part of their licensure process.

Types of Vets

Veterinarians provide medical care to animals, just as medical doctors do for humans. Their training process is also similar, consisting of a four-year undergraduate degree and a four-year doctorate. Veterinarians can also choose to specialize, completing internships or two to four years of supervised residency to gain experience in a narrower area of practice. Several career paths are open to veterinarians.

Private Practice

Many veterinarians work in private practice, either as sole practitioners or as part of a larger group practice. There are three major types of practice, and vets might specialize in any one or more of the three. Companion animal veterinarians work primarily with household pets, such as dogs or cats. Equine vets focus on the care and treatment of horses, while farm-animal practices provide care to cattle, hogs, poultry and other animals raised commercially.

Specialists

Like doctors who treat humans, some veterinarians are general practitioners and some choose to specialize. Many of these specialties correspond directly to specialties chosen by physicians. For example, veterinary ophthalmologists diagnose and treat eye diseases and impaired vision in animals. Orthopedic veterinarians treat injuries and conditions of the spine and musculoskeletal system, including the major joints. Other veterinarians might choose to specialize in the treatment of animal populations with distinctly different needs, such as wild animal care or marine animal care.

Research Veterinarians and Veterinary Epidemiologists

Diseases in animals can have significant consequences for humans as well. Losing a pet is emotionally stressful, but an outbreak affecting one of the major food species can bankrupt farmers or damage the entire food industry. Worse, some diseases are zoonotic, meaning they can spread from animals to humans. Research veterinarians investigate the causes of animal diseases and congenital medical conditions, while veterinary epidemiologists study the mechanisms of disease transmission. Both can find well-paying careers in private industry or in government service.

Education

One of the most crucial roles in any skilled profession is education, passing along a body of detailed knowledge to a new generation of practitioners. The Association of American Veterinary colleges notes on its website that up to 40 percent of current veterinary college and training hospital faculty could retire within the next decade, creating a major shortage in the field. With only 28 colleges of veterinary medicine in the United States, and with many more applicants than program spaces, the profession can ill afford any reduction in its training capacity.

Types of Veterinarian Jobs in High Demand

The Field of Veterinary Medicine Has Many Jobs for Vets

Most pet owners think of veterinarians as animal pet doctors working in a veterinary or animal hospital or clinic. However, the field veterinary medicine is very board with many different aspects and jobs that a veterinarian can peruse.

Are there different types of Veterinarians?

Veterinarians may be employed or contracted by veterinary clinics and hospitals, government agencies, educational institutions, wildlife management groups, zoos, aquariums, ranches, farming-related businesses, or pharmaceutical companies.

The following are examples of types of veterinarians:

 Companion animal Veterinarians
These veterinarians diagnose and treat diseases or abnormal conditions in animals, most often cats and dogs. They are the most common type of veterinarian and provide inoculations; prescribe medication; set bones; dress wounds; perform surgery and dental work; offer euthanasia services; and advise clients on the general care of their animals.

What Specific Types of Veterinarians Are There?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of people who consider their pet to be a member of the family is on the rise, and so is the request for nontraditional veterinary services, like preventative dental care and cancer treatments. To meet the demand of the growing and more diverse domestic pet populations, individuals studying to become veterinarians have a wealth of specialties from which to choose. It all boils down to whether they want to spend their days looking into the eyes of a dog or a prairie dog

Small Animal Practitioner

The most common type of veterinarian, the small animal practitioner, treats domestic pets. Some choose to run practices that are exclusive to cats and dogs, while others also treat small mammals, such as ferrets, rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs.

Using Photo Booth To Make A Picture In An Event

9 REASONS WHY YOU NEED A PHOTO BOOTH FOR THE BIG DAY

Entertainment

Your guests will love it. We always have a queue to get into our booth and when guests come out they are always smiling; so much so they come back again and again! “The photobooth was the highlight of the night and everybody was really pleased with the photographs,” said one of our real brides. “Thank you for helping to make our evening one to remember!”

SAY CHEESE! 5 ALTERNATIVES TO THE PHOTO BOOTH

The past five weddings you’ve been to (or in our case, 1,000), have included a photo booth, right? And why not? They’re fun and give guests something to do other than eat, dance and awkwardly mingle with the people they do not know at their table. If you’re looking to be a trendsetter and tired of the same old photo booth idea, take a look at these five alternatives to still capture the memories, but in a more modern way…

  1. Polaroid Camera

Kick it old school. Rather than rent a high tech digital photo booth, set up a few Polaroid cameras for guests to grab at. Create a designated area with a prop table so people can plan their print-out pictures wisely. Have a clothesline or wall set up so guests can hang their pictures to develop for all to see before either taking them home or saving them as a token for a guest book. Urban Outfitters has been selling super cute Fujifilm Instax vintage-looking cameras in pastel colors for $100 each lately!

  1. Caricature Artist

Last year, our couple Farah and Ryan, who wed at the historic Asbury Park Convention Hall, hired Drawn Together NYC, a caricature artist that sketched portraits their guests. Everyone got to take home a funny drawing of themselves – and lurved it. If you’re having a Jersey Shore, boardwalk themed wedding, consider this festive, fitting option.

  1. Selfie Sticks

One of our June couples, Phil and Marissa, opted the traditional photo booth for a selfie stick on each table at their outdoor bohemian-themed wedding. The sticks fit the vibe and allowed guests to take pics right at their table on their own time. Plus, with the speediness and popularity of social media today, guests could immediately post their selfies online with the couple’s wedding hashtag.

  1. Touchscreen

OK, so maybe you are a techie (hey, no shame there). If so, think about a touchscreen photo booth. Photo Creations has a special one that you can rent and essentially treat like a giant iPhone. Tap to take a pic, then draw pictures and words in colors on top of the photo like your SnapChat app before printing.

  1. Flipbook

Remember those little books you used to make in middle school (mainly of stick figures doing things) that you flipped really fast and it appeared like a moving picture? An L.A. based company called Flipbooth functions as an open-air photo booth that films for 6 seconds before splitting out your images into a miniature flipbook. Now, to get them to Jersey… (if anyone’s successful, let us know!)

Photo Booth Greeting Cards For Special Events, Birthdays, And Holidays

This unique photo booth pictures idea will warm somebody’s heart– especially if your photo booth picture is one of a kind! Got a bunch of wedding photo booth pictures? Make some thank you cards for your most beloved guests.

What about all of those photo booth shots of you and your best friend? Put together an unforgettable birthday card for them.

To start this adorable photo booth greeting card project, you will need:

  • Cardstock
  • Stickers
  • Pens
  • Glue
  • Photo corners

Start by placing your photobooth photo on the unprinted side of card stock. Determine how much space you want around your photo and at the bottom.

  • Get your measurements, and double it. Cut out the measured rectangle.
  • Put the photo corners onto the photo strip.
  • Fold the cardstock in half. On the front printed side, attach the photo strip to the paper. Make sure you’re using stronger glue for this one so it’ll last longer.
  • Embellish the front of the card with whatever you’d like.
  • Write a sweet message and sign the inside of your card.

Why photo booths have become so popular!

Photo booths have become so popular in the most recent years for all special occasions and here’s why:

  1. They are a great way to get your guests engaged and serves as an icebreaker at your event.
  2. Photo booths are so fun and it is a great source of entertainment for all your guests. No matter how old and young, everyone can let loose and get creative in the booths with all the props!
  3. Your guest will create memories they’ll get bring home as a keepsake from your event with just one snap
  4. You have the ability to customize the photos to match the theme of your events that can be used as a party favor.

Tips How To Use Hydro Jetting Service

Snaking vs Hydro Jetting: Which Drain Cleaning Should You Choose?

It’s important that your home’s water pipes work well at all times. These pipes are responsible for moving waste and dirty water away from your home. Unfortunately, when pipes get blocked, they can’t do their jobs. This has serious consequences for a residential plumbing system. If your home is experiencing problems with clogged pipes, you have two options: hydro-jet cleaning or snaking.

What Is Hydro-jet Cleaning?

Hydro-jetting, also referred to as water-jetting, is a specialized cleaning solution for drain and sewer pipes. It uses a high-pressure hose that has a special nozzle affixed on the end. The hose itself connects to a machine that directs pressurized water through the nozzle to clean and clear out congested sewer pipes.

Is Hydro-jetting Recommended for All Drain Clogs?

Some pipes aren’t strong enough to handle the force of hydro-jetting. In these cases, using a drain snake is better. Drain snake service uses a cable machine to clear clogs and is an affordable option. Hydro-jetting is best for serious clogs such as when there are tree roots in the sewer line or there is a massive clog that won’t respond to other methods.

Benefits of Hydro-jetting Service

Blocked sewer lines put the drains inside your home at risk of backing up and overflowing. Like it or not, the sewer pipes on your property are your responsibility to maintain. The easiest and most effective way to do this is to use hydro-jetting to clear serious clogs. The reason this method is popular and so effective is that it’s able to cut through virtually anything including wood, dried concrete, grease clinging to pipes, and those pesky tree roots. The pressurized water is powerful enough to pulverize nearly any material and wash it away and out of the pipe. Another benefit of hydro-jetting is that it cleans pipes thoroughly, leaving the pipes crystal clear and ready to stave off future clogs.

Benefits of the Drain Snake

The drain snake is a great option for small clogs that haven’t made it past the trap and deep into the line. It’s also a good option for homeowners who want to try to clear a clog before calling for professional drain cleaning services. Drain snakes, or hand augers, are available at home improvement stores and are a cost-effective, easy-to-use option for the average person.

Top Tips For Best Services in Hydro Jetting

Be it your residence or your commercial complex, you inevitably have a complex series of drain pipes. As the name tells, these pipes carry dirty water and other waste materials that increase the chance of getting these pipes clogged. Such situation can lead to severe situations that your residence or commercial property cannot tolerate. Obviously, it requires the best services to remove the wastes and keep the pipe clear and free-flowing.

Though you do not have any practical idea for such a service, you cannot find it difficult to understand that cleaning the clogged drain can never be an easy task. It is here that you start realizing the significance of the services for Hydro Jetting Seattle.

What is Hydro Jetting?

As far as the idea behind Hydro Jetting is concerned, you can take it as a technology that use a high-pressure flow of water to remove the waste that gets clogged in the drain pipes preventing it to carrying waste away from your home. The water is blown into the pipes using a machine that removes everything that gets clogged in the drain. Remember, it is the latest technique that has eased the process of drain cleaning everywhere in Seattle and rest of the USA. Since it has been tried and tested by hundreds of satisfied customers, therefore you may not have any doubts in the utilities of the technique.

Since the technology used in Hydro Jetting is yet to reach the common plumbing agencies, therefore the availability of the service is not that satisfying at the moment. Still, you must keep a few tips in your mind. Following are some of them:

Hire an agency for Hydro Jetting Seattle on personal recommendations. Please ensure that these recommendations can make your task easier as you do not need to crosscheck the credibility of the service providers.

Reasons to choose Hydro Jetting Sewer and Drain Pipe Cleaning

Slow draining water in the kitchen sink, frequent clogs in the toilet, stinky smells in the sinks, and unexplained gurgling sounds are all signs of a drainage system that need to be cleaned. Ignoring these problems can be very expensive and potentially hazardous to the family’s health so the owner will need to address these issues by hiring a professional plumbing company to take on this job. Though there are a number of different methods that can be used to clean a homes drains, some are considered to be better than others. Therefore, it is important for homeowners to do their homework prior to making a decision. Choosing the best drain process in the industry does not have to be difficult since homeowners have the option of using Hydro Jetting Sewer and Drain Pipe cleaning.

Cutting-Edge Technology

As technology advances, virtually every industry is experiencing changes that can completely revolutionize how things are being done. In fact, the old standards may be left light years behind as the new industry standards become the most prominent. In relation to hydro-jetting and its present role in sewer pipe cleaning, this method is not only effective, but it is also cutting edge technology. Therefore, using augers, plumbing snakes, rooter machines, and mechanical rodding is quickly become older technology, while hydro jetting pipe cleaning is quickly becoming the ultimate solution. This is because hydro jetting uses a huge amount of force to get rid of large debris, stuck tree roots, and grease accumulation that is stuck in sewer walls.

Eliminates Emergency Drain Problems

Even though a homeowner and their family may see all of the signs of needing drain cleaning services very clearly, they may not address these problems until they escalate. Meaning the owner may not contact a professional plumber until it is an emergency. Fortunately, when a homeowner contacts a plumber that has the hydro jetting equipment, the problems that they experience can be taken care of right away. In fact, it does not matter if these emergencies are discovered in a home, office or a restaurant, it is portable electric technology that can be transported wherever it is needed.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HYDRO JETTING & SNAKING

When it comes to keeping your drains unclogged and your pipes clean, there are several options to choose from. Plumbers often use one of two solutions for clogs and pipe cleaning: plumbing snakes or hydro jetting. While plumbing snakes, or plumbing augers, are a more classic approach, hydro jetting offers an innovative solution for most pipe problems.

So what’s best for your situation? That depends on the problem! When a plunger just doesn’t cut it, you need something with a little more force to clear out a clog. That is when hydro jetting and snaking come into play. Each technique is useful for different types of clogs, so you want to make sure you have a qualified plumber handling your drain clog!

When Snaking Is Beneficial

Snaking a clogged drain is done with an auger, which looks like a long steel cable with a coil at the end of it. A plumber will insert the cable into the sewer line, using the coil at the end to break through any obstructions. This will clear up the gunk in your pipes and remove any clogs.

What are the main perks of this option?

Tried and true method – You know it works and does a solid job on most clogs because plumbers have been using it for decades.

Easy on the pipes – It is an undisruptive procedure for your pipes (but not the clogs), meaning if you have fragile pipes, this is a great option.

Tackles minor clogs easily – When there is just a minor clog to tackle, snaking can easily get the job done and give you back your drain.

Exposes plumbing dangers – Since a snake uses pressure to break through clogs, it can alert you to issues like tree roots in your pipes.

The bottom line is that cabling a pipeline with an auger is a proven method that can eliminate most basic clogs. However, there are downsides to this method as well. In most cases, snaking is just a temporary solution to pipe buildups, which means more clogs in the future. If you really want to eliminate the risk of clogs, you may want to go with a more powerful, innovative option.

Choosing The Right Jetter, GPM or PSI?

Pressure Cuts into blockages:

“Thinner” high-pressure waterjet streams from a good jetting nozzle will have the most ‘cutting’ power if the PSI is adequate; experience has shown that a 3500-4000psi jetter with 6 or more GPM and the right Warthog nozzle/tool WILL cut out root masses, chop up hard grease, and carve out hard settled dirt. We’ve shipped dozens of Jetters that do 9-gpm/4000psi for cutting out this kind of crud from 3″-8” drains and sewers. Pressure cuts is also why 4000psi trailer-mounted jetters at 18-gpm are so common with contractors who get paid to cut out blockages.  This is also why the little 1500psi electric-powered units don’t cut out much at all.

GPM (‘Volume’) flushes out debris:

“Wider” waterjet streams shooting out of a jetting nozzle will have the most ‘flushing’ action, and more volume is also more impact in the cleaning. If the GPM is adequate the sheer volume of water will push and carry debris. If you want to move larger rock/bricks/grease-logs, etc., you’ll need more GPM. This is why City & County crews clean 8-12” pipe with 40-60gpm, and larger pipelines with 80+gpm trucks. This is also why little 2gpm electric-jetters don’t flush out much debris. The GPM you will need depends greatly on the pipe diameter being cleaned and whether or not you really are required to flush/scour the line clean, or if you just need to penetrate a blockage to restore flow.

Example story from the field:

A story from a contractor that was hired by a City to video-inspect an 8” pipe: When he got there, the City crew had been working for 2 hours trying to clear roots from the line with their big 65gpm/2000psi jetting truck. The contractor had a 6-gpm/4000psi jetter in his van along with his TV System and the City let him take a crack at the roots. Using a “Warthog” Slow-Rotating Cutter-Nozzle, the contractor cleared the roots and then finished the video inspection. Notice that he got done with a 20-horsepower unit what the City could not do with a 100-horsepower unit. Why? Because (a) he had the right tools and (b) PRESSURE CUTS. The contractor said in the article “you should have seen their faces!” In contrast, it is important to also realize that if we were talking about clearing rocks and debris (instead of cutting roots) then the story would be the opposite; the 65-gpm truck would run circles around the 6-gpm jetter, because VOLUME FLUSHES.

Better Way To Using New Electric Circuits

How to Map House Electrical Circuits

Electricity travels in a circle. It moves along a “hot” wire toward a light or receptacle, supplies energy to the device (called a load), and then returns along the “neutral” wire (so-called because under normal conditions it’s maintained at 0 volts, or what is referred to as ground potential) to the source. This complete path is a circuit.

At the electrical panel, turn off all of the circuit breakers.

Identify any large, double (240-volt) circuit breakers first. Flip one on. Determine which major electrical appliance(s) it supplies by turning on each electrical appliance (don’t forget equipment such as the furnace and the pool pump) until you find the right one(s). Repeat with the other large circuit breakers and major appliances.

Have your helper plug a small lamp (or any small electrical device) into a standard room receptacle. Turn breakers on and off until you find the one that turns on the device. Leave that breaker on and have your helper plug the device into other receptacles; note all the ones controlled by that breaker.

Repeat this process, switching on room lights one by one, and note the circuit breaker that controls each set of lights.

Helpful Tips On Mapping Your House Electrical Circuits

Mapping your home’s circuits is essential for verifying which devices is connected to each circuit and is determined by shutting down the breakers one by one.

Understanding Your Circuits

Each electrical panel has electrical wiring that carries voltage running to and from the electrical outlets. Hotwiring transmits electricity from the breaker box to the electrical outlets, lights, and other devices. The neutral wiring carries the power back. When a breaker is flipped, a circuit is interrupted, making it safe to work on. The circuit map on your electrical panel will indicate the different circuits which are labeled “bathroom,” “living room” etc.

In some cases, light fixtures will be on one circuit and your wall outlets on another.

Where To Start

Mapping your electrical panel will require two persons, one at the board itself and the other on walking around, communicating with walkie-talkies or cell phones.

The circuit breakers must be clearly numbered before starting.

The person walking around must have a notepad, pen and outlet tester.

Switch on all lights, electronics, and appliances except for computers that need to be shut down correctly.

The person at the panel must start shutting down the breakers, one at a time, beginning with large double-pull breakers which control large appliances such as air conditioners, oven dryers, etc.

The person moving around should then check which lights or devices are deactivated by using the outlet tester. All nearby lights and outlets must be checked to confirm that they’re completely dead.

Take detailed notes every time you’ve determined what is running on a circuit. An extra helpful step would be to remove each switch plate and outlet cover and write the breaker number on the back of each before putting it back. This way, if an residential electrician needs to perform repair work, they can immediately see which breaker must be switched off.

Tips for Water Heater Circuits

Everyone enjoys a nice warm shower or bath and we all take hot water for granted when we shave or wash our dishes. In most parts of the modern world, a good water heater in an indispensable item. However, if a water heater is wired improperly or installed on a circuit that can’t handle the load, it can be dangerous. A water heater is also filled with water under pressure and is powered by electricity and as we all know, water and electricity do no mix. If something goes wrong with the water heater, it can become a life-threatening situation. Also, if installed improperly, the pressure inside the water heater can turn it into a big bomb essentially, waiting to damage your home and cause injuries. Knowing all this, it is easy to understand why having your water heater wired properly and installed correctly is very important.

House voltage in Australia is normally between 220v and 240v and the electrical wiring and main breaker for the water heater should be about 30 amps, or more depending on the requirements of the heater you select. Some Water heaters may use more and some may use less but the circuit that supports the water heater should normally be rated at about 30 amps. This will insure that you can install most types of home water heaters and not surpass the rating of the circuit. You don’t want to install a circuit that can support exactly the maximum requirement of the water heater. You want the circuit to be rated higher than the water heater so there is no chance it may overload. Most smaller items that are used near water need to be plugged into outlets that have ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) otherwise known as residual current devices (RCD). An RCD safety switch must be installed with your hot water-heater to keep it safe incase somehow the electrical components contact the water. An RCD will interrupt the power and protect the people using the water if something goes wrong.

Electricity: Electric Circuits

Electric Circuits: Problem Set Overview

This set of 34 problems targets your ability to determine circuit quantities such as current, resistance, electric potential difference, power, and electrical energy from verbal descriptions and diagrams of physical situations pertaining to electric circuits. Problems range in difficulty from the very easy and straight-forward to the very difficult and complex. The more difficult problems are color-coded as blue problems.

Current

When charge flows through the wires of an electric circuit, current is said to exist in the wires. Electric current is a quantifiable notion which is defined as the rate at which charge flows past a point on the circuit. It can be determined by measuring the quantity of charge that flows past a cross-sectional area of a wire on the circuit. As a rate quantity, current (I) is expressed by the following equation

where Q is the quantity of charge flowing by a point in a time period of t. The standard metric unit for the quantity current is the ampere, often abbreviated as Amps or A. A current of 1 ampere is equivalent to 1 Coulomb of charge flowing past a point in 1 second. Since the quantity of charge passing a point on a circuit is related to the number of mobile charge carriers (electrons) which flow past that point, the current can also be related to the number of electrons and the time. To make this connection between the current and the number of electrons, one must know the quantity of charge on a single electron.

Resistance

As charge flows through a circuit, it encounters resistance or a hindrance to its flow. Like current, resistance is a quantifiable term. The quantity of resistance offered by a section of wire depends upon three variables – the material the wire is made out of, the length of the wire, and the cross-sectional area of the wire. One physical property of a material is its resistivity – a measure of that material’s tendency to resist charge flow through it. Resistivity values for various conducting materials are typically listed in textbooks and reference books. Knowing the resistivity value (ρ) of the material the wire is composed of and its length (L) and cross-sectional area (A), its resistance (R) can be determine using the equation below.

STC Program: Electric Circuits, 3rd Edition

In Electric Circuits, students investigate electricity by wiring a circuit to light a bulb and learn that a circuit must form a complete circle through which electric current can pass in order to light the bulb. They explore other electrical concepts, such as what conductors and insulators are and how they work. Students also learn about the symbolic language of electricity and use it to read and draw diagrams for wiring circuits and constructing a flashlight.
